Working Hard!

We have been working hard visiting members, teaching a keyboard class (Rick)-even though he's still learning himself, helping cut and haul wood, having YSA FHE,  going to the temple, and teaching seminary. We were also blessed to meet Stephanie Nielsen. She is a motivational speaker, author of the book "Heaven is Here" and a counselor in the Stake Young Women's.

A Visit From Randy and Dad

We were lucky to have Dad and Randy visit for a few days. We were able to show them some of the sights this beautiful part of the world has to offer.

YaTaHey,

Today in church we had 79 members (w/over 20 priesthood holders) in attendance, that is about 30 more than when we first came. If we can get them to keep coming we could become a ward instead of a branch! The church is having us start a keyboard class and they will be sending us small keyboards. We passed the list around and 14 people signed up. Only thing is, we do not know how to play, so we may have to recruit another Sister missionary to help teach. The Branch President's son had his mission farewell today, he is leaving to serve a mission in Guam.

We have been really busy with service projects, many families have been in need of yard help so we have been caring for yards and building post fences. It wears us out sometimes, but we are happy to help. It has been wonderful to be serving among the Native American people.

Last week we were asked by a member to check up on her sister. Yesterday when we went to visit the small group of 3 houses, no one was home at the first 2 doors. At the 3rd house a lady from another branch called us over from the backyard. She was relaxing at a table with her foot propped up. She had tripped over her dog a few days prior and hurt her foot real bad. We sat and talked with her for a while and were able to give her a blessing. She then told us she had been feeling lonely and wished she had help so she prayed. Once her prayer was finished we had showed up. It was a wonderful experience and we were so blessed to be put in her path. We are grateful to be instruments in the Lord's hand and hope we can be a blessing to more here.

If you would, please pray for us to find more less active members to bring back into the fold. We could use your prayers. And feel free to send us letters! P.O. Box 4590, Ya-ta-hey, NM 87375

We love you!

Our Garden

We are growing a garden in the back of our trailer home. Corn, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, zucchini, beets, carrots, cantaloupe, watermelon, pumpkins, and pole beans. Hope to see the fruit of labor....

Luau

Hi Everyone:

Things are going great here in New Mexico. We are assigned to the Chuska Mountain Branch in the Gallup New Mexico Stake. Two months prior to our arrival there were 3 branches that were combined into one in an effort to create a ward. In the first meeting there were 170 members who showed up. Since then they have been getting between 40 to 50 members to church out of a total membership of 1300. That’s less than 4%. Some of the members are having difficulty with the change. However, the last 2 Sundays we have had attendance of 72 members. All but one of the members is Navajo. The Branch Presidency are all new but they are very dedicated to the work.

We are going out and trying to bring the lost sheep back but it is difficult because there are very few street addresses mostly just P.O. Box numbers. We continue to try and find and invite and our efforts are seeing some fruits. We are particularly trying to find Youth and YSA’s because we will be teaching Seminary when the school year starts but so far have only had limited success.

We are presently working as facilitators for a Self Reliance group and are assisting in training for Family History. We are also doing community service 3 times a week helping to prepare meals for the local students.

Last Saturday we were in charge of a Luau which was a great success. There was a lot of good food and entertainment. All who came had a wonderful time and there were many there we had not seen before, so it was a great missionary tool. Hope all is well with everyone back home.

Snowflake Temple

Hey all, Today (Monday, May 29th) we went to the Snowflake AZ temple and did a session with 3 other couples. It is a very beautiful temple up on a hill overlooking Snowflake. We then had some seminary training in Joseph City Arizona. It took about 5 hours RT. We had a great day yesterday. At church we had the Stake President come and talk to the Branch and they asked me to speak also. After church we went out and visited a number of members. Everyone we have met so far has been very friendly and accepting. I got a couple of the ward list so we can go out and invite the less actives back. There are 1300 members in this Branch but only about 50 come. out to church. We also met with our Mission President Adams who came to interview the FT Elders. He encouraged us to have planning meetings together so we do not duplicate our efforts or miss anyone who needs fellowshipping. It was a very nice and beautiful day here. We sent some pictures by text message so hope you got them. Also put a couple on Facebook. Hope you all had a great Memorial Day. We love our Mission and we love the people. We love you all so very much too.
